For Project X, I decided to create my own V-Tuber model. A V-tuber model is an animated avatar that is generally used for content creation like streaming or creating YouTube videos. While the idea of creating video content is also interesting, what fascinates me, and drew me to this idea, was the creation and animation of the model itself.
To create a character for this, of course I would have to start with character design. For this, I created a rough sketch, of the idea I had in mind, alongside a few different variants with different color schemes. In the end I took my favorite of these, and created a survey to user test the effectiveness of this character design.
Keeping the time constraints in mind, I had to be mindful of the scope of this project. The creation of the model requires a lot of intense layer separation in the drawing, as well as keyframing every potential movement. Keeping this in mind, some feedback, like colors being too dull, was an easy fix, especially as I had no time for detailed shading, however feedback that this model could benefit from a background, would have to be shelved if I wanted to realistically make good progress on this model.
I created all the art in the digital drawing software Ibis Paint X. These files were then converted to Photoshop files, and placed within the unique 2D animation software, Live2D, which is specifically catered to the creation of V-tuber models.
